Butia capitat, the Jelly Palm  
Butia capitata, the Jelly Palm.This is a stunning feather palm from South America, which is becoming more and more popular due to its remarkable hardiness. It produces large fleshy fruits (which are very tasty) after a good hot summer. It will need some winter protection when it is young, especially in the colder parts of the country but is generally a very tough palm.
    Position? full sun and sheltered from cold winds
    Soil? all soils, but avoid waterlogged areas; drought tolerant once established
    Eventual size? 3 to 4 metres tall, about 2 metres wide
    Habit? single trunk, with arching feather-like leaves
