Catalpa erubescens 'Purpurea', the Purple Indian Bean Tree is a wide, spreading tree with large, heart-shaped leaves which emerge a dark purple before fading to pale green. Upright pacicles of creamy white flowers are produced in early summer and these are then followed by long, hanging seed pods which remain long after the leaves fall. It is a vigorous tree and can be kept coppiced or pollarded for even bigger leaves! |
