Cercis Forest Pansy, Eastern Redbud
Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy', Eastern Redbud, is a deciduous, small tree with a spreading habit. It has beautiful, heart-shaped, dark purple-red leaves. Deep crimson, purple-pink flowers are borne before the leaves appear. Ideally should be planted out of strong winds, which can damage the large leaves. Should be planted in full sun to part shade in free draining soil. RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Position? full sun to part shade and sheltered; avoid very windy positions, especially salt-laden
Soil? all soils, but avoid waterlogged areas; very dry soils will need extra watering
Eventual size? up to 3 metres, but can be pruned
Habit? slow growing, spreading tree with amazing flowers and autumn colour
