Here is a range of plants for the collector, be it yourself or as an exciting plant for a present for the dicerning gardener. These are rare plants mostly grown by us or aquired from other passionate nurserymen.

The list will be slightly random as they are generally plants available in small numbers and are added as soon as they are available.

An attractive small Aechmea which can either be grown mounted or potted in a fast draining compost mix. Suitable for use in vivariums.

Aloe striatula

A fantastic Aloe, which has proven to be hardy down to -8/-10 degrees Centigrade; it grows fairly quickly into a multi-stemmed plant around 1 metre in height and spread. Site in a sunny position in well-drained soil (or pot) to ensure good growth and flowering. It has tall candle-like yellow/orange flowers in mid summer. Very easy to grow and look after.

Farfugium japonicum 'Giganteum'  

Farfugium japonicum 'Giganteum' (Giant Leopard Plant)

Farfugium 'Giganteum' is similar to the species, except for the giant size of each leaf, nearly 15" across and so thick and glossy that it doesn't seem real.
Farfugium 'Giganteum' does not like all day shade, but instead prefers at least a couple of hours of sun.

The cultivar 'Spiders Web' has green leaves with white variegation that can also be speckled or with blotches which are dotted around the leaf margins or through to the centre of the leaf.

A rare yucca-like plant with pale bluish-green upright sword-like leaves. White flower spikes are produced on mature plants in summer and can reach 10-12 feet in height. Prefers full sun in a well drained location and protection from frost

Gunnera manicata

Gunnera manicata, or giant rhubarb, a native to South America from Colombia to Brazil, is a species of flowering plant in the Gunneraceae family. It is a large, clump-forming herbaceous perennial growing to 2.5 m tall by 4 m or more.

We grow 5 different varieties of this wonderful ground cover plant. They all look great planted on-mass in dappled shade. Not only do they have robust deer resistant evergreen leaves in late summer masses of deep purple to white flowers are produced.

Honey Bush. A lovely, architectural, evergreen plant with deeply cut, glaucous blue-grey foliage and very unusual, brownish crimson to deep brick red flowers from May to July. May die down in winter but will grow up again in the spring. Height 1-2m. Spread 1-2m.

Pinus mugo (Dwarf Mountain Pine)

An attractive, dwarf evergreen conifer with a neat, globular to rounded habit. Dark green, needle-like foliage. Very slow growing conifer whose neat appearance makes it a fine specimen for foundation plantings, rock gardens and planters. Produces small inconspicuous flowers from May to July.

Puya chilensis (Chilean Puya)

Puya chilensis. An evergreen perennial from the hillsides of Chile. Forms large rosettes of grey-green strap like leaves with hooked spikes. Drought tolerant, will tolerate light frosts with protection needed in colder regions, prefers full sun. Half hardy, Plant can withstand temperatures down to 0°C (32°F), may need winter protection.

Zantedeschia aethiopica 'Mr Martin'

Discovered in Worcestershire garden this hardy arum is a robust grower producing wonderful larger than average flower spathes during the summer months. Survived the last two winters outside with us and will grow in any rich fertile soil or even as a marginal plant.
