Eucalyptus gunnii, Cider Gum  
Eucalyptus gunnii, the Cider Gum is a firm favourite among many gardeners with its blue-grey foliage and decorative bark. It is a very fast growing evergreen tree from Australia, but is very tolerant of the British variable weather! Regular pruning will encourage a dense, bushy crown; it can be grown in a container, but is more suitable to being planted in the open ground.
    Position? full sun to part-shade; tolerant of exposed sites
    Soil? all soils, but avoid waterlogged areas; very dry soils will need extra watering
    Eventual size? up to 5 metres, but can be pruned
    Habit? fast growing, evergreen tree with an open, frothy habit
