Liquidambar styraciflua 'Worplesdon' is simply one of the best trees you can grow for outstanding autumn colour. The leaves are a very similar shape to a maple and are a dark green throughout the summer; once the first few frosts have been the green starts to turn to purples, reds and oranges. Happy in most soils and situations, this is a very rewarding tree.
    Position? full sun to part shade, avoid very exposed sites and salty winds
    Soil? all soils, but avoid waterlogged areas; very dry soils will need extra watering
    Eventual size? up to 5 metres, but can be pruned
    Habit? pyramidal in shape, open habit
