Prunus lusitanica, Portuguese laurel  
Prunus lusitanica, Portuguese Laurel a superb evergreen large shrub to small tree. Suitable for a wide range of uses from as simple as an elegant high quality hedge or screen to a finely clipped topiary specimen. Has robust dark green leaves up to 7 or 8 cm long held on branches which have a reddish colour when young. Produces sprays of white flowers during the summer.
    Position? full sun to part shade; tolerant of windy and coastal positions
    Soil? most soils except waterlogged
    Eventual size? 3 to 5 metre, but can be pruned
    Habit? rounded evergreen shrub with dense foliage
