Sabal minor - Dwarf Palmetto
Sabal minor, the Dwarf Palmetto Palm is an almost trunkless palm from the USA. It is relatively hardy in most parts of the UK, but prefers a sunny, sheltered position - ideally being wrapped in colder parts of the UK. When happy it will produce very large leaves which almost appear to come straight out of the ground. Great in a pot as long as it doesn't freeze solid.
Position? full sun and a sheltered position; should be wrapped in colder areas
Soil? all soils, but avoid waterlogged areas; drought tolerant once established
Eventual size? up to 3 metres in height
Habit? masses of large, dark green leaves with almost no trunk
