Chocolate Vine

Akebia quinata is a beautiful semi-evergreen climber. Attractive dark green leaves above blue-green beneath, purple tinged in winter.Spicy fragrant racemes of chocolate-purple flowers which after a good summer can be followed by large pink fruit (not edible). Fast growing and so ideal for covering a fence or trellis quickly. Will grow best in full sun and free draining soil; keep well watered until established.

Originating from China, this is a vigorous evergreen climber with saucer-shaped, lightly scented white flowers, with cream anthers. These flowers are produced in abundance from March until May. It is best planted on a sunny wall where it can be admired the whole year round.

Introduced by the renowned plant collector Ernest Wilson in the early 20th Century, this is a very hardy and reliable evergreen climber. Happy in most soils and situations, it will cling to a wall or fence with ease. It is quite happy growing in a very shady spot where many other climbers would suffer. Reasonably slow growing, but certainly worthwhile for the sprays of tiny white flowers produced in late summer and early autumn.

Trachelospermum jasminoides

Simply the best evergreen climber you can own. Masses of dark green leaves are held upon twining stems which in mid summer are followed by loads of tiny jasmine-like flowers that smell divine. Once the frost has been, the leaves take on fabulous autumn colour from reds through to purple. For best results, site on a sunny wall out of strong, cold winds.

We have a range of beautiful mature Grapevines from Spain in stock. They have been removed from working vineyards, where these plants are past the best years of their fruiting life for wine production. As ornamental additions to a garden though, nothing comes close! The peeling red-brown bark looks stunning through the winter and in the spring and summer the vine puts on a huge spurt of growth. Plant in full sun and free draining soil for best results.
