Conifers are often under-rated plants and are normally seen in gardens purely as hedging or dotted around on rockeries. There are many stunning conifers which make exquisite specimen trees such as the Pines, Cedars and Spruces. Obviously, everyone knows the Monkey Puzzle which makes a fantastic structural addition to the larger garden. Don't be too afraid of some of the conifers getting too large, since many are very controllable by pruning - take bonsai for example! We will be increasing our conifer range, so get ready for the Conifer Crusade!

Araucaria araucana, the Monkey Puzzle was Introduced from Chile by the Victorians, this slow growing conifer is immediately recognised by its spirally arranged pointed leaves. It will do best in a rich loamy soil and will tolerate a reasonable amount of wind as long as it is not salt laden. A superb large specimen tree for the exotic garden. An excellent architectural tree and possibly the most symmetrical in existence!
