Old olive trees, ancient olive trees, mature olive trees, specimen olive trees, big olive trees, gnarled olive trees or whatever you wish to call them, are always available in large quantities at Big Plant Nursery.

We are the leading supplier of old olive trees in the UK, with a large stock of olive trees at the nursery at any one time. We always have a broad range of olive trees currently at the nursery and if you can't see the shape or size you are interested in on the website, please let us know and we can send you photos of some other olive trees which may take your fancy.

Once you have added a mature olive tree to your basket, you will notice that a shipping charge of zero will appear. This is due to the fact that it is very difficult to standardize delivery costs of such large trees. Once we have received your order, when will give you a quote for delivery and if you are happy, we will then process you order.

Some notes about olive trees...

At Big Plant Nursery, we stock a huge range of olive trees - young olive trees are both home grown, as well as sourced from specialist producers in Europe. The mature olive trees are often harvested from old olive tree groves which are being removed to make way for more profitable varieties, as global warming continues to affect southern and central Europe.

Once the olive trees are fairly mature, they have incredible cold tolerance and all of our olive trees are kept outside for the whole season, with no wrapping or molly-coddling! Our winter temperatures will often drop down below -12 degrees Centigrade and sometimes colder. Olive trees are happy growing in southern england as a whole and will grow well in the more sheltered and coastal areas in the rest of the UK. For more information about olive care, pruning olives and growing olive trees, click here for our olive growing guide.

As long as you site your olive tree in free-draining soil and a good, sunny position, it will quite happily tolerate living outside in the UK! Olive trees are also salt and wind tolerant, making them ideal candidates for the coastal garden. After a good summer, once you have harvested your olive crop, have a look at our olive preparation recipe to make sure you get the most from your olive tree!

If you would like to know a bit more about olive cultivars and varieties, why not have a look at our olive cultivars page?
