Although proudly a nursery and not a garden centre, we do sell a few sundry items - products which are difficult to obtain (such as the big plastic pots) or that we recommend (such as the seaweed extract). If you think we should be stocking something in this section, please let us know - no suggestions of birdbaths or christmas decorations though!
Bamboo root barrier online Bamboo root barrier

Bamboo root barrier is ideal for keeping your bamboo plant in check without it running all over the garden. The root barrier is made of laminated triple-woven nylon, making it incredibly tough but also very flexible.

We would recommend using this bamboo root barrier when planting any Phyllostachys, Sasa, Pseudosasa or Hibanobambusa bamboo, but it won't be necessary for any of the clump-forming bamboos such as Fargesia or Chusquea.

Big plant pots

Big plant pots are ideal for growing on big plants and are a great cheap alternative to large glazed or terracotta pots. All of these pots are made of strong black plastic and are frost resistant, light and hard-wearing. Most sizes come with handles to make moving them around the garden easier. Below we have listed our most popular big pots, but we can obtain most sizes up to 1000 litres - just email us for dimensions and price.

Seaweed extract and plant food Seaweed extract

Seaweed extract is a fantastic plant food, full of nutrients and high in trace elements. Endorsed and used by Big Plant Nursery, it is organic, sustainable and harvested by a local family in Shetland.

Seaweed fertiliser is an excellent choice for almost all plants, with tree ferns and palms in particular thriving on it. Having tried it on our vegetables this year, we can also recommend it to increase yields!
