Trachelospermum jasminoides

Confederate Jasmine

Description

Trachelospermum jasminoides, evergreen Jasmine is simply the best hardy, evergreen climber you can own. Masses of mid/dark green, glossy leaves are held upon twining stems which in mid summer are followed by loads of tiny jasmine-like flowers that smell divine. Once the frost has been, the leaves take on fabulous autumn colour from reds through to purple.

For best results, site on a sunny wall out of strong, cold winds. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Also available are our homegrown Trachelospermum asiaticum which is very similar to jasminoides but with smaller leaves and flowers a creamy white, though just as fragrant. It’s main difference however is that it is hardier making it more suitable for cooler locations. In a nutshell if you live in the north go for this one. In the south you have a choice, white or cream flowers.
