Hoheria sexstylosa ‘Snow White’

(1 customer review)

Description

Hoheria sexstylosa ‘Snow White’ is a beautiful evergreen tree originating from New Zealand commonly known as the ‘Lacebark or ‘Ribbonwood Tree’ due to the attractive peeling bark on mature plants. ‘Snow White’ has a neat pyramidal habit with small dainty oval jagged edged deep green leaves. Like all Hoheria masses of stunning white cherry-like flowers are produced in profusion throughout June and July. Once thought to be slightly tender like many New Zealand plants this particular cultivar has been growing for many years in West Sussex and has survived temperatures of below minus 10 degrees centigrade whilst remaining evergreen and showing no signs of damage.

We have discovered that Hoheria sexstylosa ‘Snow White’ is incredibly versatile and really should be more widely known being happy either growing in its natural form or clipped into whatever shape you have in mind making it suitable as a beautiful evergreen tree or screening/hedging plant. Versatile too in the height you would like it to be remaining happy pruned to 2-3 metres tall or left naturally to make 5 or more metres. Like all Hoheria performs best when grown in milder locations situated in a sunny to part shade position planted in fertile compost avoiding waterlogged soils.

I bought two of these from BPN just over a year ago. They were delivered in great condition. We are very near the coast so salt winds were a concern. Both have flourished and are now twice the height as when they arrived. Masses of flowers came in the first year. They provide very good screening without being oppressively dense. Really glad we got these.
