Magnolia ccuminata 'Blue Opal' is an unusual and beautiful variety taking its name from the striking blue buds which are abundant in late spring or early summer. These are followed by large green-yellow flowers during May. Large mid-dark green leaves will emerge once the flowers start to fade.
Unlike many varieties, Magnolia acuminata 'Blue Opal' is tolerant of most soil types. It will require full sun and a sheltered position, preferably sheltered from frost - this plant is perfectly hardy, but frost might damage the beautiful flower buds as they emerge. Soil needs to be moist but well drained and we would recommend adding some organic matter to the planting hole.
Plant in fertile soil with good compost added, top dress in winter. Pruning not necessary.
