Musella lasiocarpa, the Golden lotus banana, comes from Yunnan, a province in the south of China. It naturally forms large clumps and rarely exceeds 2 metres in height. Once mature the largest stem produces a spectacular bright yellow flower (hence golden lotus) that can last for up to 6 months. Once this flower has died, the surrounding stems carry on growing and will each flower in turn. Almost as hardy as Musa basjoo, this banana is worth trying if you don't have the room for such a large banana.
