Description

Acer shirasawanum ‘Aureum’ is a stunning Japanese maple with almost round nine to thirteen lobed leaves which emerge in spring a beautiful pale golden yellow. During summer they mature to a lime green. On mature plants the winged seeds produced in late summer are a burgandy-orange and are held high amongst the foliage creating an attractive effect.

  • Position:Dappled sun / part shade, out of cold, drying winds - especially coastal winds.
  • Soil:All soils, but avoid waterlogged areas very dry soils will need extra watering.
  • Eventual Size:3 to 6 metres, but can be pruned.
  • Habit:Deciduous open, strongly branched small tree.
  • Foliage:Deciduous.
  • Common Names:Japanese maple 'Aureum' and full moon maple.
