Well – it’s a Photinia. Love them or hate them they are seriously useful plants and very popular at Big Plant Nursery. When asked to write a description for Photinia I must admit I let out a deep sigh but now that I’ve started – I’m talking myself into buying one.
Photinia ‘Carré Rouge’ is a particularly beautiful variety with a wonderfully compact habit. The glossy leaves are pointed and emerge as extraordinarily intense blood-red making a bold display maturing to a deep green. This is an extremely versatile plant being suitable for growing as a stand-alone specimen or as a hedge.
There is no escaping the fact that few shrubs will offer such intense foliar colour – the Photinia looks at home in any style of garden, from exotic to more traditional styles.
We recommend planting in free draining soil in sunny, sheltered position. Photinia ‘Carré Rouge’ will clip beautifully, otherwise it requires very little maintenance.
