Description

Catalpa erubescens ‘Purpurea’, the Purple Indian Bean Tree, is a wide, spreading tree with large, heart-shaped leaves which emerge a dark purple before fading to pale green. Upright panicles of creamy white flowers are produced in early summer, these are then followed by long, hanging seed pods which remain on the tree long after the leaves fall. It is a vigorous tree and can be kept coppiced or pollarded for even bigger leaves! RHS Award of Garden Merit.
