This Lycoris squamigera, The Resurrection Lily, is a rarely seen bulbous perennial fom Japan, very similar in appearance to the well-known Amaryllis lillies but differing by flowering on bare-naked stems during late summer into autumn.  The flowers are a sumptuous pink and white, trumpet-shaped and produced in whorls of 5-10 blooms on each stem.  Best planted in a sunny, free-draining position, Resurrection Lillies produce their leaves like most plants in spring; these are dark green and strap-like, growing vigorously into early summer when they whither away and just when you think your lily has disappeared, it re-emerges with the splendour of the flower spikes.
