Grevillea juniperina ‘New Blood’

Description

Grevillea juniperina ‘New Blood’ is an extraordinary member of the Protea family and native to Australia and is an excellent and floriferous variety.  The zingy bright green foliage is less spiky than other varieties and similar in appearance to that of a prostrate Rosemary perhaps.

During spring-summer you can expect a fabulous display of deep intense red-pink spidery flowers.  The flowers are long lived and in abundance and in many gardens the show goes on throughout the year.

Also in their favour is their robust nature – they will need very little from you and in fact thrive on neglect.  Don’t ever feed Grevillea – in fact it could kill the plant as phosphate is actually toxic to them.  They are also incredibly drought tolerant.  Plant in full sun in very free draining, preferably poor soil or in a container.  Will struggle in areas prone to severely cold weather so may need protection in these circumstances.

You can clip Grevillea juniperina to keep it dense and shapely if you desire – make sure you don’t cut into old wood, just a light tidy up occasionally.  This is a wonderfully versiltile and easy medium evergreen shrub.  It’s excellent on the coast and in milder gardens particularly.

A must have plant!
