Aloe conifera ‘Twirl’

Description

Aloe conifera ‘Twirl’ is an interesting aloe originating from central Madagascar where it naturally grows at high altitude on dry rocky slopes. It would appear that ‘Twirl’ has a tendancy to slightly spiral as it grows forming a very attractive clump  producing thick chunky blue-green leaves that turn a deep reddish violet during high summer under the intense sunlight further adding to the effect. Usefully for us gardeners Aloe conifera ‘Twirl’ rarely forms a trunk and can be grown year round in a container. remaining around 40cm in diameter when fully grown. From late winter into spring the dense ‘cone like’ flower spikes are produced which develop many tiny trumpet shaped fragrant yellow flowers.

in summary Aloe conifera ‘Twirl’ is a very attractive easy to grow and care for aloe that would enjoy being outdoors during the frost free seasons being best brought into a bright sheltered position for the cooler months. Should be quiet adaptable either in a cool glasshouse, conservatory or even year round as an architectural houseplant in a sunny spot. Like all Aloes and cacti water regularly during the growing months and keep almost dry during the winter.
