Description
Yucca baccata is a fabulous variety originating from the deserts of southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. Forming bold rosettes of glaucous-green sword-shaped leaves which are rigid with white filifers adourninng the margins and spines. Bold is an understatement! Plant in very free draining soil in a sheltered and sunny position and protect from becoming waterlogged. Probably a good candidate for container growing in the UK to facilitate moving to shelter in the coldest and wettest months. It is the combination of cold and wet that will be fatal to this beautiful plant but this souldn’t put you off because that can easily be avoided with careful planting and a little thought as the weather cools down.
