Cyperus papyrus ‘Nanus’

Description

Cyperus papyrus ‘Nanus’ originates from the banks of the River Nile in Egpyt where papyrus is a familiar plant to many, used by mankind for centuries for making paper, thatching even boat making it is a remarkable plant. In its wild form papyrus can grow to over 3 metres high and be quiet invasive in it’s growth. The form Cyperus papyrus ‘Nanus’ is particularly ornamental growing to a more manageable 1.20m in hight and less boisterous than it’s wild cousin. For us as gardeners Cyperus papyrus ‘Nanus’ although not fully hardy is a very attractive addition to the garden, preferring moist soils even marginal positions it can be grown to great effect during the warmer months outdoors. During winter it can be brought indoors to a sunny spot where it will remain evergreen adding interest to your room or conservatory. Which leads me on to the fact that Cyperus is loved by photographers of posh interiors featuring regularly in trendy lifestyle magazines against white walls and sunny annexes. You could if you wish grow your papyrus indoors permanently given much feed and water to keep it satisfied.
