Description
Dasylirion Glaucophyllum is a bold, spectacular variety. Highly architectural and sometime known as ‘Sandpaper Sotol’ or ‘Blue Leaf Hidaglo Sotol’. Yes – what is ‘Sotol’ – well, it turns out that I need to add this to my cocktail cabinet. Sotol is a Mexican distilled spirit made from the heart or ‘piña’ of the Dasylirion, this is fermented with wild yeast and distilled and unlike Tequilla apparently. Anyway – on a more horticultural note, Dasylirion glaucophyllum is said to be hardy to around minus 10C and is an excellent coastal plant much like other varieties. Leaves are long, thin and blue-green with wonderfully serrated edges. The foliage is arranged in a beautiful tight rosette with a trunk forming as the plant matures.
Plant in full sun and very free draining soil or may be container grown to great effect. Here we have young plant plants grown here at Big Plant Nursery from seed. We would recommend growing on in container for the next season.
