Description
Hedychium thyrsiforme, otherwise known as the ‘Pincushion Ginger’ is a wonderfully exotic looking variety, the common name owing to the extraordinary spherical flowers which have a wonderful arrangement of white-green delicate petals and exceptionally long stamens. Truly beautiful. The foliage is equally beautiful with large, lance-shaped jungly green leaves. This is a late-flowering Hedychium and will need a sheltered position away from strong wind to encourage sturdy stems. May be grown in the gound in milder areas providing the soil isn’t water-logged, and a good mulch is appolied during winter. Can also be container grown to great effect.
