Description
Araucaria heterophylla, the ‘Norfolk Island Pine’ is a truly beautiful relative of the much-loved Monkey Puzzle. It’s a lot less spikey and suitable mainly for indoor growing here in the uk – it isn’t quite hardy enough to cope with our climate unless you live in a very mild part of the U.K. I have seen a few growing in gardens in the South West where they grow into wonderful architectural small trees but even there they are at risk of a chilly winter, you have been warned. Anyway, these are absolutely beautiful plants which will tolerate a light position, in a cool conservatory or room and are very undemanding being easy to care for. They even tolerate being pruned once they have reached the ceiling! Sometimes used as a funky Christmas Tree alternative, why not.
