Leptospermum scoparium ‘Wiri Kerry’

Description

Leptospermum scoparium ‘Wiri Kerry’ is a stunning form of the much loved and valued ‘Tea Tree’ form New Zealand known by most of us for health benefits from the oil obtained from the plant. It is also a wonderful flowering evergreen small shrub producing masses of bold crimson-pink flowers over an extremely long period, often flowering from late winter right up to summer. Like all Leptospermum this pretty evergreen is easy to care for given a mild garden and relatively free draining soil being tolerant like many New Zealand plants of coastal often windy conditions. Although in the wild they can grow into shrubby almost minature trees here they tend to reach a couple of metres high and are very happy to be clipped into topiary shapes or as I have seen in a few gardens planted as a wonderful flowering evergreen hedge.

A great smaller growing evergreen plant suitable for milder gardens and a great candidate for sunny courtyards, balconies or roof terraces.
