Description
Lobelia tupa is sometimes known as ‘The Devil’s Tobacco’! Here we have a stunning Chilean herbaceous plant, ideal for milder gardens where a sunny, sheltered position in fertile soil will ensure your Lobelia returns each year. One might associate ‘Lobelia’ with pretty little trailing bedding plants – think again, this is a bold, exotic beauty with large zesty green tactile foliage which is tobacco-like. In the mid to late summer, tall dark stems form from which bold red, tubular flowers appear creating a magnificent display.
Do take care not to eat your Lobelia – it’s harmful if eaten and also a potential skin and eye irritant, so perhaps don’t roll around in it if you were tempted. Otherwise – a bold and exotic must have!
*** Plants sold in winter may be cut back, ready to appear again when spring arrives. ***
