Description
Musa himalayensis speciosa is a beautiful Himalayan native known for being resilient in cooler climates and said to be hardy down to around minus 10-12°C. A wonderful addition to the exotic garden with huge, bright green paddle shaped leaves. We would still recommend planting in a sheltered position and offering winter protection however. This is an exciting and fairly recent introduction which appears to be closely related to Musa sikkimensis but differing in its reported ability to produce edible bananas in cool climates.
We would recommend, especially with young plants, that it would be best to overwinter them in a frost free environment through the winter months to be planted out late April to early May depending on your location.
