Description
Citrus x tangor ‘Shiranui’, is a rarely available hybrid citrus originating from Japan. It is prized for its sweet, juicy, large seedless fruits. It is known for its superior flavour and being a very productive cultivar. It forms a small tree reaching around 2-3 metres tall. It has evergreen and glossy dark green leaves. White flowers appear in spring and are followed by large, round to slightly bumpy fruits.
Citrus ‘Shiranui’ thrives in a sheltered, sunny location and free draining soil. It is said to be hardy down to -5°C. So if you have a mild sheltered sunny spot in your garden well worth a try. if you haven’t got a mild garden they are happy in a container. It makes an excellent conservatory plant and requires a bright, sheltered position and should be kept moist but not overwatered; allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Regular feeding with a liquid fertiliser in spring and summer months will help promote flowering.
