Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii' is a fast growing, very jungly plant also known as the Red Abyssinian banana. Though not hardy it can be grown outside duriing the summer months either planted out or in a large container. Often growing to over 1.50 metres tall in a single summer 'Maurelii' creates a stunning show with it's brightly coloured paddle shaped leaves. Best brought inside for the winter or dug up and cut back hard and kept in a cool glasshouse. Also makes a beautiful conservatory or house plant.

Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii' requires regular feeding during its growth period during the summer months. In the UK it will be necessary to move the plant to a sheltered position during the winter months, when the temperature is likely to fall below 2?c. If in a pot they may be moved to a sheltered position and treated a s a house plant. Alternatively the plant may be dug up, the leaves removed and stored in a cool dry place.
