Yucca rostrata

(1 customer review)

Description

Yucca rostrata sometimes known as the ‘Beaked Yucca’ is probably the most aristrocratic member of the yucca family with masses of silvery blue-grey narrow leaves forming a dense ball shaped head up to a metre across which as the plant grows is supported by a sturdy cream coloured trunk which after many, many years can reach 3-4 metres high. Originating from high mountainous plateaus of northern Mexico into Texas it experiences cold often damp grey winters making it suprisingly hardy and adaptable here in the U.K. Given perfect drainage and an alkaline stony or gritty soil to grow in Yucca rostrata can and does grow very well. It can also be grown in a large container or raised bed if your soil is soggy just make sure your yucca is positioned in as sunny a spot as possible where it can enjoy the best the U.K summer can offer. Occasionally it will flower too producing a flowing stem above the crown holding creamy white fragrant tulip shaped flowers.

Very architectural and fairly easy to grow yucca well worth a bit of patience.
