Golden Chinese Timber Bamboo


Phyllostachys vivax ‘Aureocaulis’ is simply the biggest and best golden bamboo! It will reach a similar size to the species but has amazing gold canes with intermittent green striping. Perhaps the best specimen bamboo you can grow – just make sure you feed and water it well for the best results. 

If you have room for a big bamboo, either planted or in a large container, then this is the one! RHS Award of Garden Merit. We recommend using bamboo root barrier for this bamboo.

  • Position:Sun to part shade out of cold, drying winds - especially coastal winds.
  • Soil:All soils, but avoid waterlogged areas very dry soils will need extra watering.
  • Eventual Size:Up to 6 metres, but can be pruned.
  • Habit:Columnar/Upright/Spreading/Invasive.
  • Foliage:Evergreen.
  • Common Names:Golden Chinese timber bamboo.
