Description
Begonia josephii is a stunning variety with large, exotic looking leaves. The leaves are glossy and deep green and fuzzy in texture. The edges of each leaf and centres of the veins have burgundy-red hints. When you turn the leaf over, the undersides are outrageous with deep red veins and outlines. Absolutely beautiful! Grown both as a houseplant and also a fabulous garden plant, Begonia josephii prefers a semi-shaded to shady location out of hot sun. Plant in fertile, moisture retentive soil but do not allow to become water logged. In the summer months, pretty little yellow flowers may appear on dainty stems further adding to interest. Here at Big Plant we like to weave Begonia josephii (amongst others!) into understorey planting creating a lushious effect. Hardy to around 5 degrees C so do raise plants for the winter months.
