Bougainvillea glabra ‘Sanderiana’

Bougainvillea glabra ‘Sanderiana’ is a wonderful variety of Bougainvillea that is showing good hardiness in mild microclimates in the UK.  There are large plants growing in the South East that we’ve seen, particularly around London and its suburbs.  Given the intense pink cerise of the new ‘flowers’ and its lush green foliage, this climbing plant is well worth a try if you have a hot sunny wall for it to lean on.  We’d suggest planting in a free draining soil with the occasional feed throughout the growing period.  Most likely to be deciduous in the UK, it’s worth giving a little winter protection during cold periods in the winter.  If cut back by frost, it will readily sprout from old wood, growing rapidly during spring and summer, flowering right up until late autumn.
