Podocarpus macrophyllus

Description

Podocarpus macrophyllus is a wonderfully elegant evergreen native of the Far East with beautiful long narrow, deep green leaves which have a paler, almost glaucous coloured underside.  Forming a large dense shrub or small tree, Podocarpus macrophyllus clips well and can be shaped, although its natural form is truly beautiful and little maintenance is usually required.  Plant in fertile, free draining soil in a sunny to partially shaded position.  We recommend adding organic matter when planting.  There is some suggestion that Podocarpus are not suitable for chalky gardens however in our experience so long as you have excellent drainage and enrich the soil well, this shouldn’t present as an issue.  Can also be container grown to great effect.  A sublime plant and a must have!
