Eriobotrya ‘Coppertone’

Description

Eriobotrya ‘Coppertone’ is a beautiful dense, evergreen shrub with elliptic glossy deep green leaves which emerge copper in colour.  During the late-summer to autumn, wonderfully fragrant pink-white clusters of flowers appear which in the right situation can develop into small hairy yellow-orange spherical fruits which are in fact edible.  Eriobotrya do fruit commonly in the UK in milder gardens, the fruits look a little like a small apricot and taste a little like apples.  However it is the beautiful exotic foliage and pretty flowers that earn this plant a place in the garden.  Plant in a sheltered, sunny position in fertile free draining but moisture retentive soil.
