Description
Sabal palmetto is a wonderful member of the Sabal family. Forming a sturdy trunk and gradually albeit slowly, growing into a stately upright palm tree with large, palmate leaves. Perhaps one of the best suited of the genus to growing in a warm sunny garden located in milder parts of the UK. Commonly seen in its native South Eastern United States, it is remarkable for its tolerance of cold conditions. Be warned though – it does require heat for significant growth here. Worth a try if you have a warm garden especially given the increased heat of our summers.
